I am still yet configuring my set up with few complications. In the
midst of this I thougt it would be nice to offer my suggestions on the
best programs I have found to help set up for Fido. I still await an
address for real testing but here goess:
For Tossing Mail I recommend GoMail. You merely before have to dial the
(913) 271-2070 - 76, to get the demo key and then later register.
For a nice set of batch files for Front Door I recommend the file
NewBie.zip. It also includes the batch file for WildMail if you decide
to use that as opposed to Go Mail.
I do recommend Front Door as the Front End.
For finding a bbs for that you can request a node number I recommend
using the nodelists available. (ALL OF THE PROGRAMS I recommend are
found right here on MSI including Tech Support!)
I recommend using the nodefinder here to looke up your nodelist
You may also want to use the mknl or makenode file for later compiling
node updates.
Also get WildNode here so that you can configure you WildCat conferences
for Fido Net Mail. Only one really used for netmail other for Echo.
You can also get the latest PKZIP file here. Other zip files are
available.
Of course WildCat BBS software as reviewed in BBS mags such as BBS
Callers Digest and Bulletin Board Systems (reading the advertisement in
the lastest issue was more that impressive and made me feel proud to be
a registered user of WildCat,Qmodem & WCPro.) magazines, is the my
number one choice for BBS Software.
Well I just thought it would be nice to offer my suggestions, on what
has so far worked for me, it has taken much time just get this far.
Oh yes, som hints:
If possible print out docs on Front Door and GoMail, much easier for
reference. With NewBie's Cat.bat one of the lines just says START I
believe and should read goto START.
In front Door edit the FDNODE.ctl file so that you can dial numbers
statement. Me being in NY,Queens, (718) is local for me and file looks
like this:
Phone
1-718-
End
In front door I (maybe not others) spent all night trying to get my
system to call another Fido address and was unsuccess UNTIL into the
Modem Manager and Added the strings V32 and matching string atb0|. Also
I used as 2nd and 3rd strings HST and V32B with matching atb1| and atb0|
respectively.
I set modem hardware at 2,2400,Yes,NO,Yes,Yes,No,128,0,0 with respective
menus labels in ascending order.
I set modeem strings as
ESC=+++,RET=~ATO|,Onhook=ATH0|,Off=~ATM0H1|,Dial=ATDT,Suff=|,Delay=2,Ini
t1=ATM1|(so I can hear dialing, change to ATM0| to turn off
speaker),Down=ATM0H1| and RESET=AT|. Those left out I left blank.
Again, Hope this helps. Other Archive files, which may be need if you
have availble on my board. Do call (718) 529-8890 if needed.
